That’s me amid the flying sparks, grinding down rusty bolts on the pool deck. Dr. G did most of it, but it looked like fun and I wanted to get in on the action. We were on a tight deadline– a dispute with the decking contractor resulted in my saying, “Fine, we’ll just do it ourselves!” on the phone at 3 pm. But we had to get it finished before they showed up to re-deck at seven am the next day. Throw in work schedules and extra trips to Home Depot to get the right tool, and voila, you end up working in the dark with a bedside lamp on an extension cord. By the end we were working in relays to get it done before it got past the “don’t disturb the neighbors” hour.

You look like you could be a welder.

So impressive!

Yup. It’s pretty glamorous business, being a homeowner. Like the day before we left for Italy, when Jonathan discovered a sinkhole in our backyard that was funneling water right into our basement. He ended up playing in the mud all day with my dad, building a bizarre looking contraption to route the water away from the house. Good times.

Hehehe!! Why does this make me laugh?? I should feel sorry for you, but you’ve had such troubles with the repairs needed to your new home that it seems like a farcical comedy.
That is one cool pic.

I can tell I’m spoiled — I’m grumpy that there have been no new posts in five days.

Julie, Gav, Lil sis– I blow kisses in your general direction.
Sarah– cool! I wish we had mud that I could build a contraption in. I think.
Karen– farcical, nice word! The deck was the last of the escrow-related “improvements”. WHEW! if you ever need a metal grinder, you know where to borrow one…
Steve– I can’t accept this whining, I have seen the photos of your new house! P.S. congrats!
Kate– sorry. I’ll try to rectify the situation asap.
Bea– “sparks interest” very clever. Yep, we got it done. Next we need to paint the laundry room and install shelves there and in the bathroom. Then I guess the water filter and garbage disposal, and maybe we will run a hose to the refrigerator dispenser at the same time.
