Maid Marian

Beautiful and strong-willed, Lady Marian Fitzwalter is the lady love of the dashing outlaw, Robin Hood. She is skilled with a bow, but can match the manners of any lady of the Queen. She waits earnestly for the day when King Richard will return and wed her to Robin.

First, if you haven’t checked out the most amazing parallel parking feat ever, please prepare to be impressed.

Second, remember when I was talking about crime and how people believe things are worse than they are? And remember how I blamed it on the facile go-to explanations of media/govt fear-mongering to a gullible populace? Well, Nate found this guy’s explanation, which is a lot more interesting.

Finally, this PersonalDNA quiz is the most trippindicular quiz of the year so far. I know myself pretty well (interviewing “baskets” anyone?), so when I take personality quizzes, it’s as much to test the quiz-makers’ skills as anything else. But this one is super-duper fun. You get to use sliders, and empty virtual buckets, and position yourself on two-D graphs. I heart pictures. This quiz single-handedly eased my angst about either/or, one-possibility-only answers. Then it gave me a page of fairly accurate encouragements about myself, as well as the title “Benevolent Creator.” Which in one way could apply, and in another way is sort of creepy since it’s a phrase that I’d prefer to apply to GOD.

Here are a few quotes and my “Personality DNA Map”, on which you can mouse over different colors for different information:

Your imagination, confidence, willingness to explore, and appreciation of beauty make you a CREATOR.

Your confidence allows you to take your general awareness and channel it into creativity.

Your caring nature goes beyond a basic concern: you take the time to understand the nuances of people’s situations before passing any sort of judgment.

Considering many different perspectives is something at which you excel, and you appreciate that quality in others.

Ok, having taken this quiz, I now feel it is measuring geekdom more than nerddom. It feels terrible to score only in the 20th percentile? What did I do wrong, O quiz-makers? Is it because I don’t have my I.P. address memorized? Nevertheless, it is a quiz, and it has pictures of really old scientists with big hair. Coolio.

Before we get there, here is a sample thought I have had lately: A recent post of mine began with “What happens to 131 pictures when a memory card goes on the fritz? Do their pixels just disassociate?” I later had fun realizing that I inadvertently referenced Langston Hughes: “What happens to a dream deferred?/ Does it dry up/ like a raisin in the sun?” who in turn referenced Proverbs 13:12, “Hope deferred makes the heart sick.” Cool! Digital cameras and King Solomon, together at last. Without further ado, the quiz:

These results are being made available to everyone except my sister, who stated that she didn’t want to know.
As of this writing, there were 14 respondents and all but one of you excrete at least one fluid in the shower. More than half of you cry; half of you urinate; many of you bleed. I wonder if the crying and the bleeding are at all related? Fluids that do not appear in the table were not selected by anyone. We seem to draw the line at the same place– high-fives all around! Though really, jumping in the shower is not the first thing one thinks of mid-vomit. So that omission may be simple practicality.

This public service announcement has been brought to you by the letter P and the number 14.

So I was washing my wads of snot down the drain, and I thought to myself: “Self, are you an anomaly? Or do others also excrete things in the shower?” So, being the Junior Knower that I am, I thought I’d ask The Public. Anonymously, of course, thanks to surveymonkey. Also, it’s been quite awhile since we had a quiz around these parts. I’ll report back on results once we have a sufficient sample size, and I will, of course, participate. Hope it doesn’t throw off the results.

Update: as of 12:14 am Thursday, 10 people have taken the quiz. I think I’ll give it another day or so to accumulate a few more results. Realized too late that I forgot to include “none” as an option for question 1. If you haven’t yet taken the survey, and “none” would be your answer for #1, just skip that one.
